Geschichte
Al Zubarah, auch Az-Zubāra, ist eine unbewohnte und verfallene historische Stadt an der Nordküste von Katar. Sie liegt etwa 105 km von Doha entfernt in der Gemeinde asch-Schamal. Die archäologische Stätte von Al Zubarah gehört seit 2013 zum UNESCO-Welterbe und ist die bislang einzige Welterbestätte Katars. Die Stadt war ein ehemaliger Handelsposten und Hafen für Perlentaucher am Persischen Golf und erlebte ihre Blütezeit im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert.
